These are persimmon blossoms from our tree. I probably wont make it out there to get a shot of them on the tree this year though.

I noticed a persimmon tree at a friend's house today and asked if I could have some fruit in the fall. She said sure, what do you make with them. I said "pudding." and she wrinkled her nose. "I'm looking for something great you can make with persimmons." humph. She needs to try my pudding. Anyway, she then said that she would like to make something like a flan or creme brulee, but with persimmon. "You want to make persimmon custard." "Well, I don't make custard because I don't like double boilers." Upon further investigation, I learned it had something to do with an aversion to washing dishes. ah. Well. Even if B and R DO have a recipe for persimmon custard, I have a feeling I'm going to have to make it for her.
R mostly makes persimmon jam and persimmon bread. She has made a persimmon cake with whipped cream and persimmon jam in it and persimmon pie but no persimmon custard. I'll take a look in some of the old books we have that I think might have a persimmon custard.
